The Varela Family acquired what is now Wet Bottoms Ranch in 2016 from a local East Texan Cattle Rancher who still plays an active role in maintaining the land and a harmonious ecosystem for all wildlife on the ranch. The ranch boasts several stocked ponds, multiple deer stands and feeders that have been strategically placed, and exotic animals within a high-fenced area.
Located on the Sabine River, Wet Bottoms Ranch has seasonal flooding on the back side of the property from the overflow of the river. One of the Varela Family's first experiences on the ranch was a day-long fiasco of getting stuck, pulling out ATVs, and dragging them back to the main house. By the end of the day, everyone was soaking wet. As time went on, the joke of calling the ranch "Wet Bottoms" stuck and that became its official name.
